Couples counseling from home
Maybe the hardest part of counseling is just getting to the office together. Video takes that off the table. You can meet from your living room after the kids are asleep, from two different cities during a work trip.
Sessions are by secure video. You both need to be in California during the session, and you can join from the same room or from two places.
Does online counseling work for couples?
For most couples, yes. The work is conversation, feedback, and practice, and all of that happens fine on video. Some couples find it easier to be honest at home. What matters most is a quiet, private space, a stable connection, and both of you showing up.
The method
Sessions follow Brief Directive Marriage Counseling™, a six-session structure:
- We start from one agreement: you are both committed to making the marriage work.
- We talk about the past once, so the situation is clear.
- After that, sessions stay on what you're doing now and on the agreement you make with each other.
- We meet weekly to check that the new habits are being practiced.
- By the sixth session, you two should be holding yourselves to the changes you named.
It's directive. I'll keep the hour on the present and the future, not on who was right ten years ago.
Wondering whether a screen gets in the way? I wrote about why a human counselor still matters with couples in Human Clinicians Still Outperform AI in Couples and Group Therapy.
Across California

Frequently asked questions
Do we both need to be in California?
Yes. Each of you must be physically in California during the session because my license is a California license.
What platform do you use?
A secure video link. You'll get a link after booking. No special software is needed.
Can we join from separate locations?
Yes, as long as you're both in California. Each of you just needs a private space.
