When you're great at everything except slowing down together

A lot of couples I work with are high achievers. You set goals, hit them, and move on to the next one. That works at work. At home it can turn into scorekeeping: who did more, who dropped the ball, who's falling short.

Here's a useful starting point. Your relationship runs on expectations, many of them never said out loud. When they go unmet, resentment builds quietly. We bring them into the open and turn them into clear asks.

How it works

We follow Brief Directive Marriage Counseling™: six weekly sessions. We talk about the past once, then keep the focus on what you'll do differently.

It's a focused, six-session approach, and I actively guide you toward change. We know what isn't working. Now we put the changes in place. If you're living in the past, you're not building a future. You're just practicing the problem.

Video first, in person if you like

Sessions are by secure video. You both need to be in California during the session, and you can join from the same room or from two places. If you'd like to meet face to face, my office is in Los Gatos.

Frequently asked questions

We're both perfectionists. Will that get in the way?

Not usually. The structure gives that energy somewhere useful: a clear ask and a clear plan each week.

Do you have an office in Palo Alto?

No. Most Palo Alto couples meet by video. In-person sessions are in Los Gatos.

What does it cost?

Couples and marriage sessions are $350 and individual sessions are $250. Cash-pay; a superbill is available.
